The kids like to "pretend cook", you know, mixing together various ingredients that no one in their right mind would ever combine and pretending it's a delicious soup or batter. The last time, though, too much oatmeal and farina made it down the drain when I disposed of the mess. My poor sink was sloooooooooow. I dumped almost a full bottle of Liquid Plumr down the drain to no avail. "I think you need to take the pipes apart under the sink and see what's clogging it," I told Miguel. After a week or more of very slow moving water, I contemplated doing it myself. Just after I reminded Miguel of my sink problem he asked, "Hey, don't we have a plunger or something? If I can unclog my mom's sink by pushing on the drain with my palm, I'm sure a plunger would work."
Oh yeah. We do have one of those.

I once poured a whole pot of ziti noodles down the garbage disposal for some reason. Except, they didn't get disposaled. Those slippery noodles slipped right through and my sink got all plugged up. So I put a big pot under the pipes because the sink was half full of water and I unscrewed those connectors and I popped off that elbow. All the water came gushing out and I cleaned out those noodles and put it all back together again.
Davey was sitting right there watching me. "Look at you go!" he said.
"No big deal," I shrugged, but for just a minute, I sure did feel like superwoman!
I love home repairs when things just go your way! Most of it is not so hard. I have managed to fix our freezer, oven, washer, and dryer, as well as slow sinks. I love being able to figure things out.
