Off the Grid

It's been nearly a month since I've blogged. I just haven't felt like it. Lot's has happened, of course, as it does in any life, but I just don't feel like writing about it or trying to put a creative spin on anything. You probably noticed that with the last few posts I've written.

So, I'm here just to say, I'm here.

Angie has soccer practice on Tuesday mornings at a local park and she's doing excellently. It took her a good three weeks to warm up to the new situation, as it usually does with her, but she's so comfortable now and having a great time. She's also got Storytime at the Library each week, and on Fridays we go to Grandma's school to learn with the kindergarten kids. She loves it, and the kids love her, too. One little girl has taken to acting as Angie's "protector" of sorts. It's adorable to watch. Soon, I'll leave her there while Maddie and I wait at Grandma's house for school to end. As it is, I've been backing off, using a spare classroom to give Maddie her naps and nursings while Angie participates in the class activities.

Cousin Irisvette (pronounced Eedy-vet) was over last weekend. While she and Angie painted little wooden birdhouses, she asked Angie, "What's your favorite holiday?" Angie replied, "My favorite holiday is the one where Papi gets to stay home from work." She melted her Daddy's heart with that one.

Maddie has fallen into a horrible nightime routine of waking every 45 minutes to an hour in the early part of her sleep for comfort. I spent several nights picking her up and rocking her back to sleep for 15 - 30 minutes but that was taking it's toll on me, so I switched to trying to soothe her while she was still in her crib. It worked last night pretty well, so we'll see if it affects anything tonight. I know that she's probably just put out by the change in routine when I went back to working, but we'll all get through it.

And Maddie is eating solids like a champ. Peaches, pears, apple sauce, yams, bananas and rice cereal make up her solid diet. We're going to try avocados too. I hear they're a really great first food. She rolls from her back onto her stomach, but not frequently because she really doesn't like being on her tummy, though I'm trying to change that. I have to remind myself to give her more tummy time. Yesterday she even managed to roll from her tummy to her back once, which was rewarding for her. She's a doll, that one, and she just goes with the flow of whatever is going on around her. Angie would never have put up with such changes in routine as a baby. I still have to make sure I tell Angie about any changes that are going to occur in advance so as not to cause undue stress once the change takes place.

I feel overly busy, and a lot like I'm not giving Angie enough of my time. Between the baby, housework, tutoring and activities, I feel like we're rushing everywhere and not spending any good old quiet time together. I'm trying to take that into consideration now. I'm looking for some really good crock pot recipes so that I don't have to spend my last hour before work prepping dinner for Miguel to cook.

Anyhow, that's my life for now. Sure, stuff has happened, but that's the nutshell version.

Love you all and miss talking to you...
