Long Time...

I know, there's been nothing new here for months. But if you take into account that I'm working with a new baby and that I've just had seven houseguests, it's understandable, I think. I just thought I'd let you know that everything's going well here, except for yesterday. All I can say about yesterday is thank goodness it was Sunday and Miguel was home! Maddie cried for most of the day, starting around eleven in the morning and ending at about ten at night. She stopped intermittently to take very short naps and occasionally she was quiet upon waking, but soon started crying again. She didn't even want to nurse and took in maybe four ounces of milk the whole 12 hours. I wasn't too concerned about that, because she'd eaten ravenously at about 10:30 in the morning.

The only thing we could think of was that she was constipated or gassy and couldn't get it out, despite our repeated and creative attempts to help. One of the medicines the doctor prescribed can cause constipation, but she hasn't experienced any until now and she's been taking the new medicine for 5 days already. But, we skipped her doses last night and this morning and she was happily pooping againg today. She did have an excellent night's sleep, though and is currently napping upstairs. No crying yet today, except for the usual pick me up or i'm hungry cries.

As I said, thank goodness it was a day when Miguel was home to help. After about 20 or 30 minutes of non-stop crying, you just want to tear your hair out. I feel incredibly sorry for parents of colicky babies. Can you imagine weeks of non-stop crying? No thank you.

Love you all. See you soon.

Hey Beckie! I am glad Miguel was home for the difficult day! What is Maddie taking medicine for? I hope she is doing well. Love you!

Maddie has reflux and is taking Pepcid. Her gastroentorologist perscribed Prevacid as well, but we think that wasn't working for her. When she's not on anything, she's got some pretty bad reflux. Taking just the prevacid, she does pretty well, though. We'll stick with that.

So glad you had the support you needed on your difficult day.

I remember one day, just about two weeks after the twins were born, Sam was working a long day (well, night at the time) and the twins had both been crying most of the afternoon and I couldn't get even one of them to go to sleep at all that night. He came home later than he was supposed to by several hours and when he finally arrived at about four in the morning, I didn't even say hello. I said "Thank God!" lol He scooped up a baby and she fell asleep in a matter of minutes.

Fortunately that didn't happen very often, but it really helped to have him come and save the day!
