Last night in the bathtub, Angie was tossing her stackable cups one-by-one and counting, "Uno, dos, tres, cuatro!" We were shocked, since I don't often count with her in Spanish and Papi is not as conscientious as he should be about speaking to her in Spanish.
Today in the car on the way to the beach, I was singing the Alphabet Song, which I do quite frequently. Despite my frequent urgings for her to chime in, Angie refuses to do so, until today. After I'd finished, she began singing it on her own, pretty well, too, and then finished with, "Sing with me Mommy?"
Yesterday Papi asked me if we wanted to take Angie to the P-A-R-K when we finished our errands, spelling it to avoid an immediate response from her. "We go B-U-D-C-I?" Angie said, trying to copy her Daddy's spelling.
Just when I think she's never going to pick up something I'm trying to teach her, she suddenly knows it. And I keep having to remind myself that this is the way she works and not to feel like I'm failing in teaching her. I'm always amazed.

Ha! She's two! Relax! All two year olds are like that. And three year olds. And most four year olds. And some five year olds. It's all about those elusive "teachable moments", but most of it they just pick up when you aren't even trying.
