Every cloud has a silver lining, they say. I'm a personal believer in optimism. . . if you can't find the silver lining, you're just looking at the cloud from the wrong direction!

Over the Hill and Into the Garbage
I've been eying my spice caddy lately, begrudging it the space it takes up on my meager counter, and wishing I could just get rid of it. I've had it since I moved into my first apartment...a gift from my best friend. And, as it turns out, those spices are getting pretty darned old...at least 10 years. Sandie mentioned the other day that I shouldn't hang onto spices for more than 6 months to a year, as they lose their potency. Not to mention, I can't count the number of times I've used the celery salt, coriander and mustard seed, mostly because I haven't ever used them. So, tonight, they will find a new home in the refuse bin. Goodbye dead spices, hello counter space!

Mine hangs on the wall. In tight quarters, I've hung a lot of stuff on the wall! I used to hang my pots, which I absolutely loved, but with fewer walls here, I had to give that up...for now. I do hang my utensils and my knives, though. And my potholders. And my frying pans. And my hand towel. And some cast iron trivets. In the kitchen, decorate with stuff you use!
you'll have to post a picture of it for me; I'm woefully bad at thinking outside the box when it comes to decorating!
