I awoke early this morning and snuck out of bed so as not to disturb my daughter, who sleeps in an adjoining room and seems especially sensitive to the creaks and groans of the floor at that time of morning. My husband was already downstairs, doing his morning workout before heading off to work, and I busied myself with minor tasks like cleaning the kitchen sink and cutting up the beef for tonight's dinner (Cowboy Beef and Beans). Shortly after he kissed me goodbye and walked out the door, I happened to pass by the kitchen window and stopped to stare.
Spreading across the sky in purples and reds and oranges was the most beautiful sunrise I've seen in a long time. I stared for a few minutes, watching the colors intensify then fade as the sun made it's appearance over the horizon. It's amazing how quickly it happens; before you've really had a chance to absorb the beauty, it's gone.
It sounds a bit corny, but it was one of those epiphany moments, one of those times when you realize that you're not taking enough time to enjoy the beauty around you, even in the simple things.
It's not much, but I feel invigorated and refreshed, just for having seen the purple sky this morning.
