At last check, PSE&G changed our expected power-on date from Monday the 5th to Friday the 9th of November. The temperature in the living room this morning is 60 degrees, though we were snug and warm upstairs last night due to our flannel sheets and winter comforters. We may soon have to figure out how to hook the heat up to the generator :) We do have a space heater that we can run, too, though.
Our outside freezer is not keeping food frozen, no matter how long we rung the generator for, so I suspect something is wrong with it. I've packed as much as I can into the little freezer in the kitchen, which is humming along quite nicely, and the rest we'll bring to relatives' houses that have power.
Even now, Miguel is out hunting up fuel. Open stations generate long lines well before they open for the morning, but Miguel was out early, ready for just such an event. He's really been great about hunting for the family :)
In the meantime, the children and I keep the cave warm and dry and food prepared.
Soon, I'm going to have to forrage for some candles, though we have plenty of batteries. It turns out I didn't buy nearly enough taper candles, which have a nice long flame that reflects nicely off of mirrors to illuminate a room.
Anyway, that's the news from our block.
