You might remember that we went on a vacation in September and stayed at a hotel that was decorated almost exclusively with lava lamps. Recently, the children got their very own lava lamps from K-Mart (at $8 each, it's a small price to pay for the endless giggles the lamps elicit) and wrote about them for school. The children were supplied with these directions: "Tell me about your new lava lamp. Draw a picture. Begin with "My new lava lamp..." "
Here is Maddie's essay.

Maddie told me what she wanted to write and I wrote it on the dry erase board for her to copy. At almost 4 years old, I was very impressed with her handwriting. I reminded her to place lower case letters below the dottd like, where appropriate, but all of the handwriting is hers. And that's her in the picture, loving her new lava lamp. |
And here is Angie's essay.
 |
Angie is almost 7 and has very neat handwriting. She tried to get away with just the first page, but I made her write more on the back. I did correct her spelling of water (watter) and bubbles (bubles), but everything else is her own. That last part is "...it gets sukt (sucked) in." We haven't talked about past tense spelling yet :) |
