V-Cation Photos

Angie and Maddie pronounce it "vee-cation" and refuse to say it correctly no matter how many times I correct them.  We had fun.  The weather was only semi-cooperative, but we ate fudge when we weren't supposed to; went on rides that made our tummies spin; soaked up the sun and a good deal of sand; splashed in the cool ocean water; got seasick on a dolphin-watching boat trip; slept in a cool hotel with lava lamps; spent more money than we should have on games and cheezy prizes; and ate dinner out every night (and dressed up, too, whether it was warranted or not!)

Here we are with the famous Wildwood beach balls (they're concrete).

And here, digging a big hole in the sand.  This sand had an almost muddy feel to it, and there was this fine black grit that worked its way into the lining of our suits and was the very devil to get out.

This picture is not really very good, but I'm not in many of the shots, so this is what you get of me.

Clearly, this picture is out of order, because we're back in front of the Wildwood sign, with no sand to be seen on us anywhere.

In a reversal of roles, Angie is loving the water this year, looking like a real body-boarder,
while Maddie...

...Maddie is finally ok with walking where the water has been, but runs from even the most gently approaching wave.  (You'd think, from that picture above, that a massive curl was about to overtake my baby, but no, the water swept oh-so-gently up the sand, reaching a depth of no more than a quarter inch.)

One of the hundreds of lava lamps at the hotel.  This was our bedside lamp, which I thought would make a nice night-light, until I realized that the children were staring at it so intently they were not falling asleep.  The ambient light coming from the windows was more than adequate anyway.

And here, in front of the Cape May Lighthouse.  Did you know that there's an exit 0 on the parkway?  It does this math teacher's heart good to know that they didn't start with 1.   We can now proudly say we've been to the ends of the state and back.

Looks like a great time was had by all! Glad you were able to go. I know what it's like to be vacationless!
