Every cloud has a silver lining, they say. I'm a personal believer in optimism. . . if you can't find the silver lining, you're just looking at the cloud from the wrong direction!

Gone
My tomato. My poor, beautiful, barely-ripe tomato. Gone. Eaten by some thoughtless animal in the night. The remains scattered in the yard. ::sniff::
I know just how you feel. The corn was almost ripe, almost ready for eating, when the DEER came out of nowhere and ate it all. I'm not even thinking about all the tomatoes they squashed sleeping in the garden. :-(
So sad. Paul was just commenting that your garden was looking really nice. I told him about your tomato and he felt bad for you. Me too. Gardens are such a labor of love, we always hate to lose anything. We are growing some corn this year (2 whole stalks!) and will get at least 2 ears of corn if nothing eats at them.
Yes, more are ripening, but you always want that first sweet taste for yourself. We did get to eat a cantaloupe, though. The one Miguel and the girls picked was under-ripe, but the next one fell right off the vine and was wonderfully sweet and juicy!

at least you have a picture to remember it by... And I'll be glad to share mine with you!
