Every cloud has a silver lining, they say. I'm a personal believer in optimism. . . if you can't find the silver lining, you're just looking at the cloud from the wrong direction!

Whoda Thunk
Did you know that it only takes 3 minutes to make the perfect corn on the cob. Ok, that's stretching it, because you have to get the water to a boil first, but after that it's only three minutes. That's it. I seem to remember (from childhood days) corn on the cob taking an eternity to cook. I'm not sure if that's because we always had to boil a monstrously huge amount of water, which took a lot of time, or if the corn actually was boiling for eons. But, I cooked mine lickety split tonight (and last minute, too) and got the sweetest tasting corn on the cob. Apparently 3 minutes is enough time to cook the kernels without turning the natural sugars in the corn into starch. The longer you cook it, the more of those sugars turn to starch and you get very un-sweet corn. Try it. It makes it worth buying corn on the cob more frequently!
