Home Sweet Home

We're home -- home from the hospital with a brand new little bundle of joy to love and cherish. Little Maddie is upstairs asleep in the cradle right now, something that is amazing to me because Angie never slept for very long without one of us holding her. Of course, back then (oh so many years ago) we didn't have anything else to do but hold a new baby.

She figured out how to latch on right away and is nursing very well. Strangely, while we were in the hospital, she never pooped during the day and I didn't have to change a dirty diaper until this morning. I was thrilled when I saw her grunting and straining -- something only a new mother could love, I guess.

Her eyes, unlike Angie's at birth, are a light blue-gray without a hint of brown in them. Angies were so dark they were practically black, and you could see the chocolate brown that her eyes would become just under that thin blue film. We don't have any idea what color Maddie's eyes will be.

Needless to say, we're enchanted. And to the only person in the world who thought, er, knew, I was having a girl -- Jennie, there's hope that I might not get morning sick with a boy! Am I tempted to try again in the future?

My belly feels strangely empty and my organs seem to be jockying for position everytime I move. It's a weird and slightly unpleasant feeling.

Maddie's waking up...I'm going to to fetch her and feed her and snuggle her for a while.

Love you all...

I'm so glad you are all home and well. I'm going to call you tomorrow, if that's okay. I have a bunch of flowers to plant in the morning after church, but I'll be really tired, I mean, done, by lunch time, I think. :-) I'll try not to wake the baby, but the sharing of the birth story...must be done. :-)

And I know what you mean about your organs, all squished up for so long, suddenly falling back into place and feeling weird. Fortunately, it only lasts a few days.

G'night!
