I've never made a pinata before. I'll probably do it differently next time. It was quite time consuming, but I found it to be fun and relaxing. Except for the last evening when I spent 2 or 3 hours finishing him up...
This is Pablo's head. Or it could be his body, they're about equal in size! I used a flour and water paste and about 4 or 5 layers of newspaper around a balloon. Angie helped, a bit, but couldn't stand having her hands dirty for long!
This is Pablo after he's been assembled and painted. His beak wouldn't stay on at first (hence the discoloration around the mouth area) and I didn't have black paint for the pupils, so he looks a bit eerie. And he has no wings yet! Angie helped paint him and did a pretty good job of it!
We've started adding the tissue paper covering. I painted him first so that I wouldn't have to worry about getting excessively good coverage with the tissue paper. He looks better this way! And as you can see, he's got wings now! And a beak!

Finally, he's finished, complete with bowtie and party hat! All that blue tissue paper took hours to put on but he looks so cute and fuzzy! I had to use actual tissues for the whites of his eyes because I forgot to get white tissue paper!
We displayed him outside at Angie's party for a couple of hours before letting the kids beat on him. I think the 4 layers of paper mache were too much, because none of the little ones could break him. He finally broke at the connection between the head and body after some effort by one of the bigger kids at the party. I felt bad for my poor battered Pablo...now there's nothing left but the memory! (And a foot, if Josie took it home with her!)
