What I Didn't Do Today

I didn't spend an hour on the couch catching up on sleep while Angie watched her morning cartoons. I didn't say, "Not right now, sweetpea," when Angie asked me to play school with her on her chalkboard. I didn't try to rush through letter and number games. I didn't check blogs or e-mail. I didn't scold Angie for getting flour and sugar and who knows what else all over the kitchen floor while we made apple pies. I didn't try to get the apple pies in the oven in record time. I didn't spend lunchtime at the computer trying to post homework assignments or respond to students' questions. I didn't rush out of the house for work feeling like my day had already been too full of work. I didn't leave my daughter wishing I'd spent more time playing with her during the day. I didn't go to bed late, thinking about how tired I'm going to be in the morning.
