Writings

I entered a poetry contest a couple of weeks ago on http://www.poetry.com/, and I got a letter three days ago stating that I am in the running for one of 104 cash and gift prizes. The top prize is $1,000, while the remaining prizes are silver and bronze medals. I don't know how many people are in the running, but I feel honored. I've also been told that my poem has been selected to be published in a collection called "Immortal Verses" published by the people who run the poetry website. The poem is very personal, but I figure since I put it on the poetry website, I can post it here too, so you don't have to search the poetry site for it. Without further ado, here is my entry.

Six AM Temperature
Six AM temperature, ninety seven point two.
Up one-tenth, down two-tenths,
Religiously charting, waiting for the rise.
Timing intimacy to fluids and degrees.
Still, on day twenty-five I bleed.
Unsolicited advice on positions and techniques
Cowboy hats and aphrodisiacs.
Patiently enduring pointed questions.
Politely answering casual inquiries.
Still, with each reminder I bleed.
Smiling mothers herding broods,
Proudly fulfilling social expectations.
Drawing envy, rending wounds unhealed,
Innocently flaunting the joys of multiplicity.
Still, for my single blessing, asleep in her crib, I would bleed.

Beckie,

((Hugs)) Your poem is extremely eloquent. I am sorry you are having trouble, and extremely proud of you for having the grace to realize your blessings in Angie. She is a beautiful little girl whom you should be extremely proud of. I hope you win.

I just reread my comment, a day later, and thought to myself,"I hope you win what?" Then, I remembered that you are entered in the contest. Good luck!
