Every cloud has a silver lining, they say. I'm a personal believer in optimism. . . if you can't find the silver lining, you're just looking at the cloud from the wrong direction!

"Waiter, There's a Fly in My Soup"
I decided to cook brown rice last night. We haven't had brown rice in ages, and I thought it would be a nice change from the usual white. So, I measured out the water and the salt and the rice. After bringing the water to a boil, I dumped in the rice and let simmer. After a while, I went to check on it and noticed some grains floating at the top of the water. I thought it a bit odd, since rice doesn't usually float, and scooped the grains off. And just as I was lifting my spoon from the pot, I gasped in horror, realizing what they were. Worms! In my rice. And as I was expressing my disgust quite vocally, it occurred to me that this was where those moths had been living those two months ago when I ransacked my cabinet trying to figure out where they were breeding. Just to be safe, I threw out all of my bags of brown rice, opened and unopened. I decided to cook white rice last night.

Yucky. I had a similar recent problem with flour. We went without for a week before I got back to the store. Do you know how hard it is to live without flour?!
