Snuggling In

I've cancelled my math class tonight due to the icy conditions that are expected on roadways this evening and am preparing to snuggle in with my two most precious loves. We'll start a fire (I hope, as we're not too good at it) and enjoy the blaze awhile before sending Angie off to bed and getting on with the Valentine's Day festivities. What a wonderful winter day!

My firewood guy used to give us something called fatwood. You can buy it at Target, I know. What it is is wood pieces from a pine stump. The sap settles into the stump, creating a highly combustible, very hot burning material which is wonderful for catching your not-very-well-seasoned wood on fire. We've been cutting our own wood this winter ($5 for all we can fit in the van as opposed to $95 for a pick-up truck full), so no fatwood, but the wood is already dry, since the army cut it down long before we showed up. We just use old newspaper, pine needles from the backyard, anything that'll burn, to get it going.
