I watched surreptitiously from my place at the sink as she picked up a lump of raisin-filled oatmeal. Expecting her to put it in her mouth, I was surprised to see her squish it and prod it and poke it apart, looking for the raisin in the middle. She popped the raisin in her mouth and went in search of another raisin-filled lump. I was impressed with how quickly she'd located the prize and the skill with which she bypassed some lumps of oatmeal and honed in on others. Even when the raisin wasn't obvious, she knew exactly which lumps would yield a prize and which she had already divested of their loot. By the end, her tray was littered with oatmeal droppings with nary a raisin in sight.
Needless to say, she was starving an hour later and I made her some french toast, which she devoured.
I guess I have to make sure she eats her oatmeal from a spoon from now on. Then she can't evade the oatmeal in favor of the raisins.

Ah - my clever little girl.
Clever Angie!
Maybe try making it for her without the raisins. If she doesn't see them as an option, she just might eat the oatmeal! You could give her raisins afterwards. I always start the twins meals with their least favorite food and end with the one they like best out of whatever we are having.
Of course, you noticed a few hours later, or maybe even the next day, that babies don't digest raisins very well! Haha!
Yes, raisins, grapes, peas and other skinned fruits and veggies come out much the same way they went in. That's why I made sure to spoon feed the oatmeal today.
