Every cloud has a silver lining, they say. I'm a personal believer in optimism. . . if you can't find the silver lining, you're just looking at the cloud from the wrong direction!

Evacuation
Angie was just waking up from a nap. Miguel was outside cleaning up the back yard. Suddenly he pops his head inside and says, "I think they hit a gas line across the street. It smells pretty bad out here." They're digging a foundation for a new garage across the street, and the backhoe has been making noise all morning. "Do you want me to call PSE&G?" "Yeah, you'd better. Keep the doors and windows closed," he adds before disappearing. I call PSE&G and chosse option 1 for "if you smell gas, have no electricity or are experiencing another life threatening situation" and get the operator. I report the event and she says "Someone will be out as soon as possible. Is there anything else I can help you with?" Hmmmm. . .just come take care of this gas leak please. I get Angie and start to give her lunch when Miguel pokes his head inside again. "The fire department is here. They want us to evacuate." Lovely. Miguel grabs Angie, and I grab some cheese, crackers and juice for Angie, get my sneakers and head out the door. Two doors down, Andie, her two week old baby and her large dog are leaving the house. I head her way to help her with the dog. Her baby is hungry. She forgot to grab the bottle on the way out and the firemen won't let her go back in. Angie has pooped so much that it smells atrocious and it's squishing up her back. So, we go down to my new friend Jeanine's house. I change Angie with a borrowed diaper (I don't intend to return it though) and we all sit inside (she's far enough away that she didn't have to evacuate) while her sister, who's just arrived with her 4 children, goes to CVS to get some formula for the little baby. Just as she's returning, they tell us we can go back to our houses. It was fun, all in all, but I'm sure Andie didn't think so.

Yikes! Our sprinkler guys cut through the water line, but that's not life threatening, only inconvenient! Glad everything turned out okay.
You know, this comment only just appeared today. I wonder why that is?
