Thank goodness next week is spring break. I don't have to teach college and I have time to catch up on my grading and lesson planning. I also have a moment to breathe.
Tomorrow, Miguel's brother Roberto is coming over with his wife and some of his children. It's been a long time since we've seen him, since Octoberish, actually, and I'm glad he's coming. In June, Roberto's oldest son graduated from high school. Miguel went. Roberto's wife and children went. Aunts and cousins and Uncles went. But Roberto didn't go. He stayed at home to finish putting up their new pool, which wasn't ready at the end of the day anyway. He missed his first son's graduation from high school. Miguel was angry with him and told him so. Roberto hadn't spoken to him since. He and his wife (Donna) have come by the house during the day while Miguel is at work, but never while Miguel is home. And they haven't been by since around October. But now that Miguel is working for H&R Block, he gets to do some of his relatives taxes for free. So he offered and Donna accepted. That broke the ice. Maybe they'll be back on speaking terms after this.
I like Roberto. Before Miguel and I were married, he called me blanca. White woman. He said it as if he were joking, but I always got a sense that he wasn't really too pleased with that fact. Once we got married though, I became a sister, a part of his family and he's been very loving ever since. He's rough around the edges, but a hard worker who loves his family. He and Miguel have been extremely close for a long time, and I'm sorry that that relationship has been strained. Maybe tomorrow will mend it, and we'll all go back to loving each other again.
