Angie's Ear

I'm not sure, but I think Angie might be having trouble with her ear. She's been doing this thing, intermittently, where she puts her hand over her ear and tilts her head to the side slightly. I can't tell if she's being cute or if she's got an earache. I think I'll take her to the doctor tomorrow if she continues with this today. Does this sound like a symptom to anyone? She's also been crying alot today, but she's been like that for the last couple of days too.

It's kind of a judgement call you have to make yourself. Does her crying seem ear related? Ear infections are very painful. They'll resolve on their own most of the time, but with a fair bit of pain on the victim's part. Anti-biotics speed it up, offering relief very quickly. I generally err on the side of caution. I'd rather be sent home empty handed than risk additional suffering.

Has she been running any fever, even low grade? If so, it is a sign that the body is fighting an infection. Generally, doctors will ask if she has been pulling at the ear. That usually indicates pain. Also, is it the same ear every time? If so, it probably is bothering her and you should have it checked out.

Love you and hope she is doing well!

Hmmm. . .it's very hard to tell, because she just puts her hand over the ear, not pulling, and she's not usually crying while she does it. In fact, for most of the day she's very happy. She might be running a very low fever (hard to tell sometimes) but that could also be related to teething, I think. I'll make an appointment for her tomorrow, I think.

Funny, we're having the same problem with our kids at the same time. Rosie was rubbing at her left ear off and on yesterday afternoon, and I gave her some tylenol at bathtime to ease any pain she might be having. She slept well through the night, and came in to me at 5:30, then slept another two hours. I was going to make her an appointment, too, but she seems fine this morning.

I was just thinking the same thing about Angie. She slept the way she normally does (I'm not going to say she slept fine) and no ear rubbing so far. I'll hold off a bit, I think, too.
