Spa Treatment II

The bus was late. Twenty minutes late. The 12:25 arrived at 12:45 and we didn't get into the city until 1:37. I had a 2:00 appointment and the spa was 15 blocks from the Port Authority bus station. I had planned on getting into the city by about 1:15 so that I could take a leisurely walk up to the spa and spend a few minutes gabbing with everyone before my scheduled appointment. It wasn't to be. So, I clip-clip-clip-ed my way to the spa in my brown heeled shoes as fast as I could, stopping only when it was impossible to cross either street at an intersection. I made, just barely, and hugged Jenny with a "Happy Birthday!". Finally, they sat me in the most incredible pedicure chair ever. I got a full body massage while my nail care professional (Ada) soaked my feet and gave me a wonderful foot and leg massage. Then, she polished my toes and my feet with her tools and finally painted them bright bright red (just the toes).

Then, over to the fingernail desk. . . (do I have to leave this chair?). There, I got equally decadent treatment on my hands, including a massage and removal of all of the drying and peeling skin on my hot-dish-water dry hands. Finally, she painted a french manicure on and sent me off to the nail dryers. All the while I got to schmooze with my best buddy as she had her nails painted in "Thrill in Brazil" red. (At one point she blurted out, "Thrilla in Manila! That's why this name sounds so familiar! What is 'Thrilla in Manila anyway?". I was able to answer that question, thanks to my husband's (and now my) interest in boxing.)

Unfortunately I couldn't stay to enjoy the treatment too long. My return bus left at 4:30 and I'd stayed a bit too long as it was, 4:05. So, with my red toes stuffed back into my brown heeled shoes, I clip-clip-clip-ed my way back to the Port Authority (I made it there in 15 minutes) bought my ticket and got up to the terminal just as everyone was boarding. Next time, I won't wear heels. I'll go in sneakers as I usually do!

All in all, it was worth the $65 plus tip. It was decadent and something I would never do on my own, but the treatment was supurb and my nails look fantastic!
